4. Bring your Passport
If you plan to travel north of the border to Canada, located just north of the Adirondack, Buffalo, on the other side of the Thousand Islands-Seaway, bring your passport if you’re a U.S. citizen for reentry back into the county. If you a member of another country, you must carry a valid passport with multiple entry visa or visa waiver to reenter the United States; verify details with the Canadian Consulate before traveling.
5. Pack Proper Camping Equipment
If you plan to camp in upstate New York make sure you have proper equipment for the season you are traveling in, be sure to store your food in a bear canister and carry out everything you bring in.
6. Unique Lodging
Stay somewhere a little more out of the ordinary rather than a hotel like a Yurt (portable round tent covered with skins or felt used as a dwelling by nomads), a castle, old school bus or even a B & B to learn a little more about the area your visiting from a local.
