Only minutes from Orlando’s theme parks, Kissimmee is a perfect Central Florida destination for a day trip or overnight stay.

My visit to Old Town Kissimmee, one of the city’s top attractions, offered nonstop fun: a parade of vintage cars, shopping, sweet treats and tons of family-friendly adventures. It was also a great place to spend the evening: Music fills the streets, restaurants serve delicious food to try, and bars and pubs offer dancing and music.

An Afternoon of Shopping

I arrived at Old Town in the early afternoon so I could enjoy some shopping and Florida sunshine. I love strolling in a new place and seeing all kinds of shops with a variety of merchandise, and I was truly impressed by the unique boutiques here. One in particular made fresh homemade soaps and bath salts that smelled delicious. Another offered eclectic gifts such as jewelry, masks, gemstones and art.

Saturday Night Classic Car Cruise

The car cruise was the absolute highlight of my visit to Old Town. People come from far and wide for this weekly parade of cars, and I met lots of fellow Canadians during the event. I could not believe the attendance and the commitment that participants made to be a part of the parade. Vintage vehicles of all sizes and colors cruise down the streets of Old Town to get in line for the parade. Before it begins, visitors can wander around and look at all of the parked vehicles up close. It’s like an art gallery of cars!

Classic Fare and Fun Pursuits

When you’re ready for a bite to eat, Old Town has many options, but the A&W is unlike any other I’ve visited. It has a retro 1950s feel with a fantastic jukebox and beautiful mural of depicting guests from the ’50s enjoying traditional A&W fare. A root beer float – a frosty mug overflowing with a vanilla ice cream and root beer – has always been favorite of mine, so I was delighted to learn that the root beer is made on location.

After my root beer float, it was time to check out some of the attractions that keep families coming back to Old Town. There are bumper cars, a go-cart track and an arcade.

Nightlife and Dancing

It was great strolling on the streets of Old Town and checking out the many venues. Sun on the Beach is one of the area’s largest nightclubs and a great place to enjoy dancing and music. The atmosphere of the nightclub was casual but upbeat and a perfect transition from the car cruise and dinner.

My visit to Old Town was filled with lively entertainment and activities. It’s a perfect venue for the whole family to enjoy from noon until night. Visit Old Town in Kissimmee for a real treat on your next visit to Central Florida.
